Over 50 university and secondary school students from 13 European nations are taking part in Summer Week 2002, organised by the European Coordination of the International Young Catholic Students - International Movement of Catholic Students (IYCS/IMCS).

Moviment Kattoliku Studenti Universitarji, the Christian organisation at the University of Malta, which is also a full member of IYCS/IMCS, is hosting the event at the Archbishop's Seminary in Tal-Virtu'.

The theme of this year's Summer Week is: "Who are the poor in today's Europe?".

Deputy Prime Minister and Social Policy Minister Lawrence Gonzi addressed the group yesterday.

The students are spending time in discussion and prayer to bring out common areas and difficulties encountered while working with the poor in Europe and beyond.

Although most of the 10-day period, part-sponsored by the European Youth Programme, will be dedicated to work, the students will go on a full-day tour of Gozo and a half-day tour of Valletta.
