A Marsa man was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for four years for circulating counterfeit currency.

Jonathan Camilleri, 21, pleaded guilty to circulating a counterfeit Lm10 note and two counterfeit Lm5 notes at City Gate, Valletta, on Sunday.

He was, however, cleared of defrauding Heine Uwe, a tourist, of Lm10 after Magistrate Antonio Mizzi noted that the money had been returned to Uwe less than an hour later.

Police Inspector Joseph Cordina prosecuted.

Dr Giannella Caruana Curran and Dr Emmanuel Mallia were counsel to Camilleri.
