A Balzan woman was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for a year for stealing two bank cards and using them to withdraw money or buy goods.

Josette Vella, 27, pleaded guilty to stealing an HSBC card from Maria Teresa Borg and a BOV card from Franco Xuereb in May 2000.

She also admitted using the card to make illicit gains of about Lm247 and forging the card owners' signatures.

Magistrate Noel Cuschieri ruled that he had taken into consideration the woman's clean criminal record and the fact that the she reimbursed the victims.

Police Inspector Ramon Mercieca prosecuted.
