Russell Lowell Riley, who served as US Consul General in Malta from 1958 to 1960, died on June 12 in Orange County, California, at the age of 91.
Two of the Rileys' five children were born while they were in Malta.
Mr Riley had also served as US Consul General in Johannesburg, South Africa and in St John's, Newfoundland and as Charge' d'Affaires and deputy chief of mission in Monrovia, Liberia.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Thalheimer Riley, two sons, Rusty and Fred, three daughters, Kathleen Horizon, Marie Marcoulides, and Linda Elman, and one daughter from a previous marriage, Ellen Cox, of Springfield, Missouri, and his sister Dixie Riley McCurry and their families.
He will be buried in California tomorrow.
