Triathletes dominate second race
Abela and Zarb overall leaders
Birkirkara St Joseph and national team triathletes Manwel Falzon and Maria Mifsud Bonnici last week won their respective categories in the second race from a series of three open sea swimming events organised by the club.
The latest race from the series was held on a distance of 1,800m from the Neptunes waterpolo pitch to the Sliema pitch.
Falzon was unchallenged throughout the race, finishing in 23 minutes and 42 seconds. He was followed by Simon Zammit in 27.08. Keith Abela was six seconds behind Zammit.
In the ladies' race, Mifsud Bonnici was pushed to the finish line by team-mate Isabelle Zarb. Mifsud Bonnici's time was 29 minutes and six seconds. Zarb clocked 29:12. In third place was Angele Cremona who made it in 31 minutes and 28 seconds.
Abela is the overall leader of the series with an accumulated time of 50 minutes and 48 seconds over the opening two races. He is currently three minutes and 39 seconds ahead of Joe Zerafa Boffa.
Zarb is leading the ladies' race with 52 minutes and 54 seconds. Cremona is second with 55 minutes and 27 seconds.
The next race in the series will be held on Wednesday, July 24 at Marsascala. Race registration will be held at the locality's waterpolo club between 5.45 and 6.30 p.m. The race will start at 7 p.m.
