The Valletta local council is to have another meeting with horse cab drivers on Thursday to discuss an alternative apron for horses designed by the cab drivers themselves.
A legal notice requiring cab drivers to fix the apron to their horses was issued last April and wardens began booking drivers who failed to do so at the end of May.
The drivers argued that the kind of apron specified in the legal notice might be harmful to the horses. They eventually joined the General Workers' Union to seek its assistance.
Following a meeting held in mid-June, chaired by Justice and Local Government Minister Austin Gatt, they were given three weeks within which to come up with an alternative design.
The extension given to cab drivers ran out last Tuesday and wardens have again started booking drivers for failing to fit the apron.
The Association of Local Councils is backing the Valletta local council on the issue.
