The government will soon award the contract for the restoration of St Anne's Gate in Senglea to a private contractor after works are carried out by government workers, Resources and Infrastructure Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said.

The project will consist of the restoration, paving and a lighting system. The work will take 18 months to complete, he said.

Dr Zammit Dimech spoke on investment made by the government in the Cottonera area when he visited the gate yesterday.

One of the first projects aimed at the rehabilitation of Cottonera was Senglea Wharf, where an investment of Lm200,000 was made in 1994/5. Between 1994 and 1997 close to Lm250,000 was invested in Senglea, he said.
