The Consul General at the Embassy of Malta in Washington, DC, Alfred Farrugia, was elected president of the Consular Corps of Washington DC for the third year in succession. His third term runs from July 1, 2002 to June 30, 2003.

The Consul General of Malta was nominated by the Consul General of Sweden and seconded by the Consul General of Switzerland, the secretary and the treasurer of the consular corps respectively.

Mr Farrugia's nomination was endorsed by the entire executive committee and approved by the general membership at its annual general meeting. He was uncontested.

The Consular Corps of Washington DC will be celebrating its 35th anniversary over the next year and a number of new initiatives are being planned.
