Eucharistic Congress Road in Mosta had been made a one-way system the wrong way. At that time many complaints, especially by shop owners, were aired against this system and at one time it nearly turned violent against the then mayor, and the police were involved. However, the situation remained in effect.

We lived happily in Glormu Cassar Street, a quiet street with hardly any traffic driving through. When Eucharistic Congress Road was made one-way, however, all traffic going towards Mosta Square started passing through our street. From then on our lives became a nightmare.

Heavy trucks, including 18-wheelers, pass through our street, occasionally damaging our vehicles. This notwithstanding a traffic sign restricting the entrance of such heavy vehicles.

Our homes are being polluted by black dust. We have formally complained to our local council with letters duly signed by the residents, but all in vain.

To add insult to injury a local bank has opened officers in our vicinity. About 60 employees work there. They take all available parking spaces, including the surrounding streets and blocks, leaving us nowhere to park our vehicles. Sometimes we have to park four blocks away. This happens not only during office hours, but round the clock, including Saturdays and Sundays.

In this respect we again wrote a letter, duly signed by the residents concerned, to our mayor on May 16 and to date not even an acknowledgment has been forthcoming, let alone any action which the council might take. In our letter we requested that signs restricting parking except for residents be put up. Such signs are in situ at Gozo, Naxxar, San Gwann and even Floriana.

Why cannot this also be applied to us? Why is our council acting so indifferently towards us?
