The Kinderland model campaign attracted over 350 models from 45 state and Church schools. Youngsters aged between six and 15 were invited to produce the best Kinderland model, consisting of any scene of the participant's choice and including Kinder toys.
The campaign aimed to encourage youngsters to be more creative and use the crafts skills they learn at school in a practical way.
Each school participating in the campaign set up its own judging panel to select the best model from that particular school. In May, the best entries from each school were forwarded to P. Cutajar & Co Ltd, distributors of Kinder in Malta.
In June, a final judging session was carried out at this point with the first prize, a brand new computer, going to Miss Daniela Attard of St Joseph Mater Boni Consilii School in Paola. The school also won a computer for submitting the winning model.
Jessica Azzopardi from Dun Gorg Preca Primary School in Hamrun and Daniel Borg from Tarxien Primary won second and third prize respectively.
"With over 100 new toys in the present range of Kinder Surprise eggs, these youngsters had a good opportunity to make full use of their creative imaginations," said Clyde Attard, Kinder brand manager at P. Cutajar & Co Ltd.
"We were pleasantly surprised by the high level of the Kinderland models submitted by these youngsters, making the task of judging the winners quite a difficult one indeed. Merit and a word of congratulations go to all those school heads and art and craft teachers in state, Church and private schools who encouraged their students to participate and produce such creative models."
The best models from every school were exhibited to the public at P. Cutajar & Co. Ltd. Each child whose model is displayed was presented with a Kinder rucksack full of Kinder chocolate.
"Every 100 grams of Kinder chocolate contains a quarter litre of milk, so parents know that through the Kinderland campaign their children will not only be developing their artistic and creative skills but will also be choosing the healthiest chocolate there is," said Mr Attard.
"We believe that through this original Kinderland competition we have been devising an effective method to encourage youngsters to fulfil the aims of their crafts curriculum in a fun environment. In all probability we shall be holding a second edition of this competition next year."
