Elected network chairman

Enemalta chairman Professor Robert Ghirlando has been elected the first chairman of the Network of Managers of Small Island Systems within EURELECTRIC, the association that represents the electricity industry of Europe.

The network was formally set up during a recent meeting of the board of directors, which was held in Leipzig.

The network was born from an initiative taken by the Spanish member of EURELECTRIC who was concerned with the way the Spanish islands were being treated by the Spanish regulatory authorities.

The three island states of Malta, Cyprus and Iceland as well as Jersey and Guernsey, the Azores, and the Spanish and Greek islands, have all shown an interest in this network.

During the last few months, EURELECTRIC organised two meetings for its members from the small islands of Europe and Enemalta Corporation participated actively in these meetings.
