The 2002-2003 season will mark Melita AFC's 70th anniversary since it was founded by Gianni Bencini in 1932/33.

"It will also be the club's most active member, Ronnie Tabone's 50th year at the club, having given an uninterrupted, loyal and dedicated service first as goalkeeper, then as secretary and committee member," a Melita AFC statement said.

Anton Naudi has also been re-elected president for the coming season... 20 years of presidency at Melita.

Melita are also aiming for an immediate return to Division Two. "Although the club will be playing Division Three football next season, the new committee will certainly do its utmost to mark this special year by returning to Division Two," the statement added.

Next season, the senior and youths teams of Melita will be under the guidance of coach Stephen D'Amato who holds a UEFA B coaching Licence. D'Amato was handed the Melita coaching job in the latter stages of last season. He has been promoted from the club's nursery, having served as nursery coach for some years.

The Melita committee is also determined to retain all its players who will meet the coach during a players' meeting next Friday at 7.15 p.m. at the club's ground in Pembroke. Training will start the following Tuesday.

The club's annual awards will also be presented during the players' meeting. Andrei Imbroll has been selected as the club's footballer of the year. He was also runner-up in the MFA Division Two best player award.

Andrew Naudi has won the top scorer award and Matthew Sapiano was named the best youth player.

The most dedicated player award at Melita went to Jean Pierre Debattista.
