The Nationalist Party has welcomed yesterday's court ruling over the 1998 Gharghur transmissions case and said Labour Party leader Alfred Sant and Labour MP Joe Mizzi should shoulder their political responsibility as they had just been found guilty of political discrimination.

The PN said Dr Sant and Mr Mizzi were yesterday found guilty of breaching its fundamental right of freedom of expression.

The PN expected Dr Sant and Mr Mizzi to assume responsibility for what took place when the former Labour government tried to stop the PN from making television broadcasts.

The PN said the Constitutional Court's judgment showed that the former Labour government had abused its power in order to give political advantage to the Labour Party, had acted illegally and committed political discrimination.

The PN said the judgment was another blot for Dr Sant. It recalled that on June 21, 1997, Dr Sant's short-lived government had been found guilty of breaching the PN's right of freedom of expression when it tried to stop a social activity organised by the party.
