The Malta Tourism Authority yesterday presented certificates to 42 successful participants of the second series of the tourism awareness programme 'Malta, Int u t-Turist' - an intensive 40-hour course which focuses on the tourism offer aimed at front-liners in the industry.

The certificates were presented by the chairman of the MTA's Human Resources and Support Services Directorate, Albert Muscat Inglott.

Four of the participants - Giselle Camilleri (sales and front office manager), Tony Zammit (tourist information officer), Claire Zammit (geography teacher) and Michael Corser (hotel duty manager) - gave a short presentation on their experiences during the course.

Prior to the presentation the participants also took part in a field trip at the Museum of Archaeology organised by Prof. Anthony Bonanno, who gave a presentation called 'Megalithic and Neolithic Malta'.

The aim of the programme was to enable staff working in the tourism industry to be better informed about the various facets of the tourism product in the Maltese islands. Fieldtrips are also organised throughout the course, which also includes training in customer relations.

The series consists of 13 weekly sessions at the University of Malta on Tuesdays.

The next two programmes are scheduled for October 2002 and February 2003.

The sessions are being conducted by Malta University Services on behalf of the MTA. The programme is coordinated and sponsored by MTA's Human Resources and Support Services Directorate.

The directorate intends eventually to run this programme in Gozo. Shorter educational programmes targeting a wider range of participants from the support services, are also planned.

More information about these programmes can be obtained by phoning 22 915405/22 915401.
