A priest and a man appeared before the Magistrates' Court yesterday, charged with defiling three girls aged under 12.
The two men are pleading not guilty to regularly defiling the girls entrusted to their care before 1998. The priest is also charged with offending public morals.
Magistrate Abigail Lofaro yesterday started hearing the compilation of evidence against the two men, whose name is not being published pending a ruling on a ban on publication.
The request was made yesterday and Magistrate Lofaro said she would give a ruling at the next sitting on July 26.
Police Inspector Louise Vella is prosecuting.
Dr Giannella Caruana Curran and Dr Emmanuel Mallia are appearing for the defendants. Dr Nicole Vella De Fremeaux is appearing in parte civile.
