When in Brazil... the Bishop of Gozo, Mgr Nikol Cauchi, taking a brief break from his pastoral tour of Brazil to see the national celebrations in Rolandia (north of the state of Parana) immediately after Brazil defeated Germany in the World Cup final on Sunday.

The fireworks started long before the match, but were just a meek prelude to the huge street celebrations that went on for hours afterwards.

The bishop's hectic tour of Brazil has taken him to the poorest areas in the northeast, as well as Brasilia and the more affluent south.

Mgr Cauchi, who is accompanied by his pastoral secretary, Fr Renato Borg, returns to Gozo on Friday.
