I felt I must put pen to paper to join all those animal welfare organisations and animal lovers who expressed outrage at the savage insanity of beating and burning alive two race-horses probably out of envy of winning races.
This atrocity against two beautiful innocent horses cannot be forgotten and forgiven like all other ferocious killings against both protected birds and animals. We are witnessing too many cases of both bird and animal cruelty.
We are now sick and tired watching beautiful birds killed, dogs and cats maimed for life, and, now, this outrageous story of these two horses.
People who are so mean as to forget all about conscience and scruple, and stoop so low to do such barbaric acts, ought to be either imprisoned or locked up in some sanitarium.
Such people must be of a violent and cruel nature, and a danger to a peaceful society.
Many people were shocked on hearing of the horrible story. It is a shame on Catholic Malta to have to live with such cruelty to both birds and animals.
Where is the Animal Welfare Act? Should we not take the bull by the horns and act urgently to stop once and for all every kind of cruelty to animals? If we are going to be lenient like always, such barbarous acts will continue to repeat themselves.
We still have not stopped the killing and trapping of protected birds, the cruelty of dog fights, keeping the horse cabs under the scorching sun in Valletta, the killing and maiming of dogs and cats, and many other animal cruelties.
The Animal Welfare Act should be brought in now without delay.
