The Speaker of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Pier Ferdinando Casini, will be giving a lecture on "Europe and the Mediterranean" at the Aula Magna, Foundation for International Studies, in Valletta, on Friday at 6 p.m.

The lecture is being organised by the University of Malta through the Rector's Office and the European Unit.

An active Italian politician and policymaker, Mr Casini is also a member of the European Parliament and European People's Party, as well as president of the Centro Cristiano Democratico (CCD), a member of the ruling coalition, and vice-president of the Internazionale Democratici Cristiani (IDC). Mr Casini will be in Malta at Parliament's invitation.

The evening will be chaired by the Rector of the University, Professor Roger Ellul-Micallef. The European Unit of the Rector's Office of the University of Malta is organising this event as part of the University's active role on the dialogue about European relations within the Mediterranean region.
