Steve Testa, 24, of Marsa was yesterday arraigned in court and charged with a hold-up at Solid Gold Jewellery in Halel Street, St Paul's Bay last Thursday.

He was also charged with sequestering Mary Saliba and Claire Tanti from St Paul's Bay and with being in possession of a fire arm.

Testa pleaded not guilty. He is being held under preventive custody at the Corradino Correctional Facility.

Inspector Carmelo Magri prosecuted.

Just after the hold-up, which took place at about 9.30 p.m., Testa had made his getaway from the jewellery shop on foot and was chased by a passer-by as far as the new church in Qawra.

The police meanwhile were alerted after the alarm at the jeweller's went off. The police from Qawra station caught up with Testa at the Kennedy Grove in Salina.
