The examination results of the Chartered Insurance Institute are out and second-year insurance students at the Malta College of Science, Arts and Technology (MCAST) have reason to celebrate.
The Malta International Training Centre's connection with upper secondary education providers goes back to the mid-Nineties when MITC lecturers delivered courses at Sir Hannibal Scicluna Secretarial School, Msida, leading to the Chartered Insurance Institute's Certificate of Proficiency.
Later on similar courses were offered at the Paolino Vassallo Upper Secondary School, Corradino, for students pursuing insurance studies.
Since 2001, the Ministry of Education started offering insurance courses at the Institute of Business and Commerce with MCAST at Corradino. Part of the tuition was outsourced to MITC. Under this agreement for services, MITC provides a qualified lecturer as well as training resources to MCAST.
Examination results for second-year MCAST students taught by the MITC faculty for the April sessions were outstanding, the MITC said - 14 out of 16 students (88 per cent) who sat for the exams passed, five of which (30 per cent) with distinction.
There were 142 examination entrants for the April 2002 session of whom 16 (or 11 per cent) were MCAST second-year students. The MCAST students' performance was much higher than average. Although MCAST students only accounted for 11 per cent of all examinees, they obtained 50 per cent of all distinctions, and 10 per cent of all passes.
None absented themselves from the examinations. Second-year MCAST students outperformed all other insurance examinees, even practitioners in the industry.
