Maltacom's director of Information Technology, Ivo Galea, was unanimously elected council member of the E-Telecommunications Information Services (ETIS) at its last management board meeting in Limassol, Cyprus.

ETIS is an industry-led group which brings together telecommunications operators, suppliers and content providers on key information and communication technology issues and facilitates co-operation among its members.

ETIS's mission is to enable telecommunications service providers to improve their business performance by using information technology effectively. It offers a managed forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences on IT-related matters for providers, suppliers and users in the telecommunications industry and facilities co-operation between them. It is the platform for the interchange of information, experiences and professional networking at the heart of the telecommunications industry.

ETIS comprises of three permanent bodies, the management board, the council and the central office. The management board, which determines the policy of ETIS and approves the annual budget, consists of representatives of all companies who are full members of ETIS. The council consists of seven to nine members of the management board who are elected for two years.

The Maltacom Group (previously Telemalta Corporation) joined ETIS in 1995. The group is intensifying its efforts to participate and contribute effectively in international fora to enhance its strategic decisions and to secure a valuable network of contacts in the wake of the full liberalisation of telecommunications services in Malta.

Mr Galea is also acting CEO of Innovate Limited, the newest IT subsidiary company of Maltacom, set up to take over the responsibilities of all IT activities within the group and in a year's time looking outwards to the market both local and international.

Mr Galea was awarded a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Information Technology from Sheffield Hallam University. He is also a member of distinct IT organisations, including Fellow of the Institute of Analysts and Programmers; full member of the Institute for the Management of Information Systems; and a graduate member of the British Computer Society.
