A carcase of a Bottlenose dolphin was found at Fomm ir-Rih Bay, the third beaching in the past six months.

The dolphin is believed to have been washed ashore last Saturday, although the marine rescue team were informed on Tuesday about it.

The dolphin was nearly two metres long and since it had been in the sun for more than three days, it was in an advanced state of decomposition.

An external examination carried out by the team concluded that there were no external injuries, although the underside of the carcase could not be examined, since it was tightly wedged between rocks.

A detailed examination of the teeth will be carried out to find out the age of the dolphin.

The team may be contacted on 9942 2085 and 9942 2086 for stranding and beaching of dolphins and turtles.
