Rent laws reform

The AD proposal in respect of the 1939 rent laws reform (June 20) is very sagacious: A commission nominated by the MLP, PN and AD would reform the country's rent laws.

It would be interesting to learn what was the outcome of the suggestions and comments submitted to the permanent secretary of the housing ministry, as invited through The Times of September 19, 1997.

If my memory serves me right, Social Policy Minister Lawrence Gonzi, had set a deadline for the rent law commission for year ending December, 2000. Should the commission not have completed its work by the end of December, 2000, the government would commission a report on the work done up to that date and the conclusions reached by the commission. This was the minister's reply to a parliamentary question by Silvio Parnis (MLP).

It would be peevish not to admire the proposal put forward by Harry Vassallo, chairman of Alternattiva Demokratika.
