The Union Haddiema Maghqudin yesterday accused the health division of being alarmist when it recently issued a statement giving a list of cases in which patients were denied transport as a result of industrial action being taken by ambulance drivers.
The union's health services section said that from the division's own statement, which referred to two emergency cases, it could be seen quite clearly that the patients in question were taken to hospital by ambulance drivers.
The section said it had written to the medical administrator at St Luke's Hospital demanding he stop "intimidating" the ambulance garage supervisors as they went about their duties.
