A gas explosion damaged the front door of a St Paul's Bay restaurant at lunch time yesterday but the place was empty at the time, police said.

The incident happened at 1.45 p.m. inside Tuck Inn Bar and Restaurant situated on Mosta Road.

Civil protection staff and police stopped the gas leaking from the gas cylinder, which was in the yard.

The duty magistrate held an on-site inquiry. Police are investigating.
