Top teams cruise home

Sirens 9
Exiles 2
(2-0, 2-0, 2-2, 3-0)

\n

Although keeping Exiles RMF at more than an arm's length, fancied Go Mobile Sirens did not quite generate the steam to sweep smoothly past their opponents.

The fact that the team from Sliema utilised their possession period sensibly could not be discounted, but the northerners should have done with some more steadiness when within shooting range.

Sirens' utility player Paul Privitera, who struck an early hat-trick, made up for Jonathan Valletta's low-key contribution.

In any case there was little doubt where the spoils would go, as Sirens procured an adequate cushion by the half-way mark, only to coast home in a casual manner.

Sliema 13
Ta' Xbiex 3
(2-0, 3-0, 5-1, 3-2)

Sliema Burger King bagged the expected points at the expense of Ta' Xbiex Mermaids Paradise in a match which saw Peter Paolella's team gradually run out of oxygen.

The Blues were once again spearheaded by their chief goalgetter John Soler, who followed up with seven goals after having netted six in his team's opening match against Exiles.

In the first two sessions, Ta' Xbiex offered adequate resistance, with the Blues changing ends 5-0 in the lead.

But Soler followed by the promising Edward Aquilina and John Paris, was not in an indulgent mood and the Blues went on to register a comfortable victory.

Sliema: J. Cachia, J. Tabone, M. Manara, M. Galea Pace, P. Cachia, J. Soler (7), J. Paris (2), K. Engerer, E. Aquilina (4), F. Cutajar, K. Schembri, I. Muscat, S. Zammit.

Referees: I. Sciriha, A. Fenech.

Neptunes 21
Valletta 2
(4-1, 3-0, 6-1, 8-0)

Playing with a number of youngsters from their junior strings, Neptunes Vodafone romped home against Valletta without minimally extending themselves.

Innumerable wasted opportunities by the Balluta Bay side, and some good saves from the City team's goalkeeper Edward Arrigo, restricted Neptunes' victory to less resounding proportions.

Tony Camilleri, not untypically, banked on his boys' ability to sting on the break. In fact most of Neptunes' goals came from speedy counter-thrusts.

After a sterile four-minute opening, Neptunes started banging in the goals. All their youngsters got their names in the scorers' list as the absence of Matthew Pisani, Charles Zammit and Karl Galea, besides that of Adrian Cachia and David Camilleri, was not at all felt, even scorewise.

Neptunes: N. Gouder, N. Lanzon (3), K. Grima Scott, S. Camilleri (2), E. Cachia (4), D. Camilleri, J. Licari (1), S. Gravina (3), J. Brownrigg (1), M. Azzopardi (3), I. Azzopardi (1), M. Stellini (2), G. Sammut (1).

Valletta: E. Arrigo, D. Taylor, M. Camilleri, S. Iles, D. Degiorgio, P. Gatt, W. Micallef, M. Camilleri, J.C. Farrugia, D. Shaw, W. Galea (1), M. Micallef, G. Zammit (1).

Referees: I. Sciriha, M. Caruana.
