Recent issues of two leading UK pest control publications feature Malta's leading pest control expert, Ronnie C. Galea, RPPT (Adv.), MBPR (PHPC), FRSH, administrative and technical director of Comtec Service Ltd, of Corradino Industrial Estate, Paola.

Today's Technician, the National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA) official journal, and Pest Control News covered his recent academic achievements and awards, which have made Mr Galea a leading pest control expert internationally.

Mr Galea was recently awarded the Certificate in Advanced Pest Control by the NPTA, after successfully completing a course held by DATAS Associates of Cambridgeshire in March. He is also accredited to the BASIS Professional Register of Managers and Pest Technicians (PROMPT).

Mr Galea joined Comtec in 1973 as an administrative officer and was then in charge of keeping all company books, and scheduling and co-ordinating all pest control work. In 1985 he was appointed director of Comtec and is today considered a specialist in pest control on the island.

Comtec introduced professional pest control in Malta in the early 1960s and now operates from custom-built premises at Corradino, after having moved out of Sliema several years ago.

Mr Galea was behind the ambitious project to design and build a state-of-the-art fumigation plant, considered to be the most advanced in the Mediterranean region, updated with the most modern technological equipment to enable the monitoring of each fumigation from beginning to end.

Comtec Service Ltd has been a member of the British Pest Control Association since the company's formation by the late Dennis Boocock. Keeping abreast of developments in the sector through Mr Galea's initiative, Comtec is now also an active member within the NPTA.

Another significant professional achievement for Mr Galea was his recent election as a Fellow Member of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health - FRSH. The Royal Society for the Promotion of Health was established in the UK in 1876 and aims to improve the quality and dignity of human life worldwide, and to promote continuous improvement in human health through education, communication and the encouragement of scientific research.
