The first encounter between the Malta Huskies and the Gozo Canucks was played recently in front of a sizeable crowd at the Eden Ice Arena in St George's Bay.
The two teams produced an exciting fare that went down to the last minute of the game. This was the first official clash between the two sides although they have met before in practice matches.
The Huskies were clear favourites to win the match although it was expected that their Gozitan counterparts would put up a strong fight.
Throughout the game all players showed great skill and cohesion which brought about a steady flow of goals. In the last minute of the third and last period, the Huskies were leading 6-5 but perfect assists from Gozo skipper Steve Ellis saw newcomer Jason Dimech hitting two goals just in time for the Canucks to win 7-6.
A re-match is certain between these two teams as rivalry is growing as well as the number of those practising this innovative sport in Malta.
