The Gozo Business Chamber deplored the continued statements issued to the press by the Gozo Channel that the normal passenger ferry service between Malta and Gozo could be disrupted whenever there was a private cargo vessel unloading at Mgarr.
The chamber was reacting to a recent statement, issued by Gozo Channel, announcing that operational delays might occur due to a private cargo vessel unloading at Mgarr harbour.
"The company failed to announce that one of its new boats was undergoing repair works and had to be substituted by one of its smaller vessels.
"In fact, even when there were no private cargo vessels unloading in Gozo, the Sa Maison service still suffered operational delays and inconveniences due to the deployment of the Calypso instead of one of the new vessels (as happened on June 6 and 10)," it said in a statement.
The Gozo Channel utilises two berths at Mgarr for loading and unloading cars and passengers. The third berth is used by the company to lay up the third vessel at night.
"We insist that Gozitan businessmen should receive encouragement and support from a public company whose mission is to be of service to Gozo," the chamber said.
