Sir Arturo Mercieca Primary School of Victoria, Gozo, is participating in a Comenius-Socrates educational project with five other schools from Germany, England, Hungary, Italy and Poland.
Last May two teachers from Sir Arturo Mercieca School, Grace Buttigieg and Margaret Ballucci, made a study visit in Scigetcsep Primary School in Hungary. They also met the mayor who takes a great interest in the school and in the EU's Socrates-Comenius programme.
Until now the partner schools have been working on the project "My Day - Your Day" which can be found at the Website http://www.myday-yourday.com
Teachers from the five participating countries visited the Maltese Islands last month for a project meeting, during which it was decided that the next theme for the project will be "How Children Play". The focus will be on traditional games.
The end product will be a collective reflective study on the traditional games of all the six participating countries. Children will be participating in the project through correspondence, use of e-mail and exchange of drawings.
A Comenius Day was held at the Victoria school on May 27. It included an exhibition of the children's work about the "My Day - Your Day "project and a concert. A Comenius room was recently set up and was officially opened by Ms M.R. Mifsud, director Student Services and International Relations. Other distinguished guests included Nationalist MPs Frederick Azzopardi and Victor Galea Pace, Mr Helmut Domas from the German Embassy, and Mrs Vivianne Galea Pace, school council president.
These visits are enriching educational experience to the teachers. All teachers and administrative staff are all keen to see the project through. It will be presented at the next project meeting in Italy in November.
