The Tas-Salvatur Chapel in Kalkara is being restored at an estimated cost of Lm80,000.

The chapel forms part of the Bighi complex and was recently used as a storeroom for items used in the feast.

The restoration is being carried out by the Cottonera Rehabilitation Project over two years. The technical part of the work will be in the hands of the Malta Centre for Restoration.

The chapel was visited yesterday by Infrastructure Minister Francis Zammit Dimech.

The work completed so far includes the shoring up of the ceiling and a historical study of the chapel. A statue on the façade is also being restored.

The origins of the chapel are not certain, but the first record of it was in 1436.
