Ira worried about unauthorised use of her name

'Thank you' concert tonight

Ira Losco has found out that the sweet taste of success can leave a bitter aftertaste after several event organisers used her name on their posters without even asking if she could attend.

Song for Europe organising committee chairman Charlò Bonnici said Ira was very worried about this because comments had already started to circulate that fame had gone to her head since she placed second in the Eurovision Song Contest.

"Some of the posters have been legitimate, but there are others relating to events for which they never received confirmation," he said.

"Obviously, since she returned to Malta Ira has been inundated with requests, but people have to appreciate that she cannot be everywhere and accept every offer," he said.

Mr Bonnici said that certain events were given priority, especially when it came to promoting her winning song, 7th Wonder, abroad.

"We want Ira's career to develop into something bigger and it is not easy to infiltrate the international market," he said.

Mr Bonnici said that at the moment the organising committee was hoping to clinch an international contract with a record company, so Ira had to concentrate on her promotion abroad.

Ira returned from a promotional stint in Germany last night and is expected to travel to Greece and Ireland in the near future.

Meanwhile, Mr Bonnici said that Ira will be saying thank you to the public for all their support by performing at a concert being held at Ta' Qali tonight.

Ira's concert, being organised by the Culture Department and sponsored by Maltacom and Cisk Export, will be supported by several Maltese performers.

The performers include Paula, Claudette Pace, Lawrence Gray, Karen Polidano, Olivia Lewis, newcomer Manuel Xuereb and the Ace Line Dancers.

Ira, who will be giving a live rendition of her hit singles 7th Wonder, Spellbound and One Step Away, will also play with her band Tiara.

Tickets for tonight's concert, which starts at 8 p.m., are available from the Exotique outlets in Valletta and Sliema, and the D'Amato Record Shop and The Music Club in Valletta.

Tickets are also available at the door.
