Short memories

I just cannot understand how people very often use two weights and measures when it suits them. I read Desmond Zammit Marmara's letter regarding Malta's sovereignty. I pity people with short memory. However, when some deliberately forget, it angers me.

Mr Zammit Marmara and his Labour Party keep on ignoring history. Do they honestly believe that we all forgot that Labour wanted integration with Britain? What would have happened to our sovereignty had they got it their way? Would Malta be the only county in Britain not forming part of the European Union? Would the Maltese language have been recognised as an official language of the British parliament?

Shame on them - they wanted to sell our dignity, identity and sovereignty for the cheese that was handed out by 'Care'. Labour wanted to accommodate Lord Montgomery but the people decided otherwise - believe it or not through a referendum.

Yes, their memory is deliberately short. How can they forget that it was a Labour government that called for the referendum that would have sold our soul as a nation? Praise be to God that the Nationalist Party stood firm against such a betrayal. The Nationalist Party won that referendum and integration with Britain was out of the bag.

The Nationalists won another referendum. The second one gave us our dignity and sovereignty - and they will win the third, which would give us the same rights and status that Britain, Germany, France and the rest of the EU countries enjoy.

I just cannot understand how the Labour leader claims that he is European and yet does not want to be part of the family. His and his party's actions remind me of the parable of the prodigal son who wanted to live on his own. We all know what happened then. Luckily for us, we are more mature.
