The eighth European Promotion Cup for men gets underway today at the Ta' Qali Pavilion with the opening match of the eight-team tournament, between Albania and Scotland, starting at 2.30 p.m.

These two teams are in the same group with Malta. The other side in the section is San Marino. The latter will be facing the hosts in today's last match on the programme, starting at 9 p.m.

The official opening of the Promotion Cup will be held before the Malta game, at 8.15 p.m.

The other teams in competition are Wales, Moldova, Andorra and Gibraltar. Group matches will be played until Friday with the decisive play-offs for final placings scheduled for Saturday.

Malta's three group matches will all be played at 9 p.m. After today's match against San Marino, Joe Galea's men take on Albania tomorrow and Scotland on Thursday. The semi-finals will be played on Friday and the final, on Saturday, starts at 6.30 p.m.

The Maltese team has just won the Kinnie International Series after beating visiting Sicily's Grifoni Catania two times last weekend - 108-81 and 75-55. This event was part of the team's preparations, which took off in January, for the Promotion Cup.
