Central Cigarette Company Limited organised a seminar for Customs and Police officials on counterfeit cigarettes and contraband. High officials from the Ministry of Finance also attended the seminar.

Ron Marshall, an expert on the subject and head of brand enforcement within British American Tobacco, addressed the seminar. Members of Central Cigarette's management discussed what measures can be taken to increase the co-operation between the company and the Customs and Police to overcome the problem of counterfeiting and contraband.

Mr Marshall stressed this was a global problem, which affected the tobacco industry everywhere and was not limited to tobacco products only. BAT is working with governments worldwide to address the problem.

Central Cigarette and BAT reiterated that they would take all the necessary steps to protect their trademarks and in the process help Government secure its revenue from tobacco excise.
