The Dwal Godda drama group of Gharghur has won an award given every year by the Department of Youth and Sport and the parliamentary secretariat in the Ministry of Education to a group of young people whose work stands out.

Dwal Godda is a group of young people who believe in using the theatre as a social catalyst.

Over the years, the group performed plays by Friggieri, Ebejer, Simon, Wilder, Miller, Molière, Pirandello and others.

Last year's play, Ferh ta' Genn by Martin Gauci, dealt with how young people react to different life pressures. In collaboration with Sedqa, a week of activities on the subject was held prior to the performance. This play was presented in various places for different audiences. People who have experienced drug addiction were also invited to hold an open discussion after the performances.

The Passion play performed every year by the group on Palm Sunday at Gharghur is very popular.

The award presentation ceremony was held at St James Cavalier last week.

Theresa Gauci, who chairs the group, said their aim was to embrace all, even those who were considered as marginalised.
