This summer, just over 70 young people, aged between 17 and 21, will be recruited by Island Hotels Group.

Earlier last month, around 200 attended the group's Open Day at the Radisson SAS Bay Point Resort. This was specifically held to recruit part-timers for the summer period only. Jobs on offer are related mainly to food service and junior kitchen positions and pool boys.

Apart from the work experience, selected candidates will benefit from extensive training in food and beverage, safety standards, customer service and a Yes I Can! mentality towards providing the best service to all guests patronising the group's various establishments.

A total of five days of solid training will be given to each individual employed, although the length of service is only expected to be temporary and cover only a ten-week period.

Louis Naudi, director of Human Resources for Island Hotels Group, said he was very satisfied to see a good response to Open Day. He added that through the relevant training and work experience offered, the company is able to make a small contribution towards enriching the roles of these individuals, as well as enhancing employment possibilities within the tourism industry in the future.

"The company strongly believes that a trained employee is a happier person and feels much more pride in giving the service. Likewise for summer workers.

"Although they will only be with us for 10 weeks, we feel it is critical that each member of staff gets the correct level of exposure to training, thus enabling them to carry out their duties correctly," Mr Naudi added.

Participants were briefed about the company, its corporate culture and the training they will receive. The selection process consisted of a questionnaire and an interview.

Participants were also shown round the group's flagship hotel, the Radisson SAS Bay Point Resort.
