Forget the tactics, I just want to score - Vieri

Italy striker Christian Vieri has dismissed all talk of tactical formations and says he has only one thing on his mind... scoring goals.

Giovanni Trapattoni will pair Vieri with Francesco Totti in a 4-4-2 formation for the opening Group G game against Ecuador on Monday but Vieri said it made no difference to him.

"It doesn't interest me, I am a striker and I need to score goals. One striker, two strikers, three, it's not a problem. The important thing is to play well," Vieri said.

With a four-man midfield Italy are likely to attack more down the flanks meaning Vieri should receive more of the kind of service he relishes - good crosses from wide.

"In theory yes, but the important thing is that we attack," said the 28-year-old, once the most expensive player in the world.

While much of Italy's build-up has been accompanied by debates over the merits of various formations, Vieri said that had not been the experience for the players.

"Trapattoni doesn't fill your head with systems all day. He brings great calmness to the players and lets us get on with our jobs," he said.
