Bank of Valletta has launched the BOV Economics Award for this year, open to anybody with an interest in economic affairs.
Participants should prepare a 3,000-word essay on one of the following titles: "What is Malta`s economic potential within the Euro-Mediterranean region?" or "The short-term interest rate is the best instrument of monetary policy for the control of inflation. Discuss with reference to Malta".
The BOV Economics Award 2002 was launched during a presentation ceremony recently during which the winners of the 2001 edition were awarded. The presentation ceremony was chaired by Prof. D. Darmanin, dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy at the University of Malta.
Lawrence Micallef, assistant to the bank`s executive head of corporate strategy, presented the winner, Karl Montfort, and the runner-up, Godwin Mifsud, with the Lm300 and Lm150 prize money respectively.
The BOV Economics Award is held annually by the economic research unit within Bank of Valletta, with the collaboration of the Economics Department of the University of Malta. The aim of the competition is to promote the sharing of ideas, knowledge, and analysis on the Maltese economy.
The closing date for the competition is November 30.
