Data published by Eurostat shows that the annual inflation rate in the 15 member states of the European Union fell from 2.3 per cent in March to 2.2 per cent in April.
In April, 2001 inflation in the EU was 2.6 per cent, the Malta-EU Information Centre said.
Inflation in the 12 countries of the eurozone was 2.4 per cent in April, 2002.
The eurozone is made up of Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.
In Malta, the latest figures published by the National Statistics Office show that the inflation rate during March, 2002 stood at 3.62 per cent, 0.14 per cent more than in February 2002. Inflation in March 2001 was at 1.92 per cent, MIC said.
