Opposition finance spokesman Leo Brincat asked the finance minister in parliament yesterday what had become of plans for the privatisation of Bank of Valletta. He asked with what foreign banks talks were currently in progress.

Replying, Finance Minister John Dalli said the bank was currently in the phase of preparation for privatisation. That included the position of the Banco di Sicilia, which had been granted a 14 per cent stake by the socialist government without paying a cent. No talks were being held with other banks.
