The Malta Development Corporation approved 164 industrial projects in the past three years, with the smallest number being last year, figures tabled in parliament yesterday show.

Economic Services Minister Josef Bonnici gave the figures in reply to a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Mario Galea.

The figures show that the MDC approved 27 new projects in 1999, 47 in the year 2000 and 24 last year.

It also approved 28 expansions in 1999, 12 in the year 2000 and 26 last year.

In all, the projects involve capital investment of Lm64.8 million and will employ 4,677 by their third year of operation.
