Nature Trust (Malta) said Wied l-Isperanza in Mosta leading to the picturesque Chadwick Lakes had been blighted by all forms of dumping, such as domestic waste.

Residential areas in Ta` Sriedak and Ta` Zokkrija in the countryside surrounding the valley had mushroomed at an abnormal rate, the trust said.

The trust said developments had generated large amounts of building waste which was recklessly dumped in the valley or in fields surrounding the valley.

Debris was clearly visible from the main road leading from the Jesuits` centre in Mosta to Mgarr along il-Missjunarju Malti Street.

The trust added that besides being an eyesore, construction in such areas had encroached on the rural landscape of the area which has Mdina as a backdrop.

The trust called on the authorities to embark on a thorough clean-up of the area.
