Four Cospicua men were yesterday arraigned under arrest and charged with injuring a policeman and causing a disturbance during a football match between Cospicua and Senglea at the Centenary Ground in Ta` Qali on Sunday.

Roderick Gatt, 20, Kevin Farrugia, 20, Charlot Lautier, 22 and a 17-year-old youth whose name cannot be published because he is under 18, appeared before Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera.

They were charged with violently resisting the police while performing their duty and with attacking PC Mark Bilocca and slightly injuring him.

Gatt was also charged with throwing a hard object during the match, threatening a police officer, uttering obscene language and breaching the public peace.

The court was asked to bar the accused from entering a football ground for a period it deemed fit.

The accused were granted bail on a personal guarantee of Lm300 each and on condition they do not frequent football grounds throughout the duration of the court proceedings.

Inspector Mario Bonello prosecuted.

Dr Emanuel Mallia, Dr Edward Zammit Lewis and Dr Victor Bugeja appeared for the accused.
