Water Services Corporation employees have been directed by the General Workers` Union to boycott, as from today, contractors doing work for the corporation.

The union said it was escalating industrial action because it had not received any counter proposals from the finance ministry over the revision of salaries as part of the WSC workers` collective agreement that expired in December 2000.

The GWU is insisting that work carried out by contractors should be done by WSC workers.

The union said that the Finance Minister had been insisting that a rise in salaries should be linked to an increase in production levels.
