Horticulturist Peter Calamatta was among the first visitors earlier this month to Floriade, in Holland, host of one of the most spectacular horticultural events.

Held every 10 years, Floriade is the showcase of Dutch horticulture.

Every 10 years, the Dutch government singles out a large area of derelict or misused land and turns it into magnificent gardens and show areas for the Floriade experience.

It comprises three separate park areas, each with its own character and atmosphere featuring some exceptional displays and exhibitions. It also includes horticultural exhibits from all over the world.

Floriade will remain open until October, following which the site will become a permanent public park.
