Success for Joe Attard

Five Maltese shooters were in the final six in yesterday`s last day of the BoV Malta International Grand Prix at the Bidnija ranges.

Joe Attard was the eventual winner with a total of 137 hits, 115 and 22 in the barrage. The only overseas competitor in the final six, Giuseppe Andretti, finished the day in second place after he hit 114 and then missed four clays in the barrage.

Leader on the second day, Frans Pace had to settle for third place with a total of 134 (113+21) but not before a shoot-off with Eugene Borg (112+22). Aldo Falzon was fifth (111+21) and John Marmara sixth (113+17).

Six straights were recorded yesterday. These were obtained by Noel Attard and Marmara, Italians Egidio Antonelli, Lorenzo Gasperini and Andretti, and Welshman Michael Wixey.

To make it to the final, Falzon beat Englishman Gareth Hill in a shoot-off. Eighty-one shooters took part in the competition, 36 of whom came from Italy, England, Wales and Norway.
