The message which was emerging from the synod experience, which was launched last year, was that Christians should have moral fibre and should give witness of Christian values in all sectors of society, Archbishop Joseph Mercieca said yesterday.

Addressing the congregation at a celebration to mark the vigil of Pentecost at Lija parish church yesterday, Mgr Mercieca said that by living Christian values one would be giving the greatest contribution to a more just society that lived in peace and unity.

Mgr Mercieca said that during the synod assembly, he could sense the wish for the renewal of the Church in Malta.

He also referred to the importance of the Synod for the Church because it was discussing important topics such as the Church`s pastoral activity.

Some 250 people representing all the sectors of the Maltese Church and including a representative of each parish are taking part in the synod, which has already met 12 times.
