Beethoven`s first symphony is just one of the highlights of a national orchestra concert being conducted by Mro Michael Laus at the Mediterranean Conference Centre tomorrow at 7.30 p.m.
Mro Laus, who is the orchestra chairman, will feature as soloist as well as conductor.
The first part of the evening will be dedicated to works by Mozart, namely Rondo in D Major for piano and orchestra.
This composition is animated by the freedom of Mozartian variation and poetic charm. Vienna gave a tremendous reception to this Rondo, which has since become a work on its own.
Beethoven`s Overture to Egmont Op. 84 will open the second part of the concert. The incidental music to Goethe`s tragedy is a wonderful mirror reflecting the violent nature of the action. The nobility of the hero, the glory and apotheosis of the central figure, is best encapsulated in the overture.
Beethoven`s Symphony No. 1 will bring the concert to an end.
The concert will be over by 9.30 p.m., enabling those leaving the Mediterranean Conference Centre to enjoy the fireworks festival which will be let off from different areas over Grand Harbour.
