President to attend UN meeting

President Guido de Marco will leave Malta on Sunday for New York where he will be attending the annual meeting of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting will be held between May 13 and 16 at the United Nations headquarters.

While in the US, Prof. de Marco will also be having various meetings with, among others, Dr Han Seung-soo, current president of the United Nations General Assembly, and Dr Henry Kissinger, former US Secretary of State.

Prof. de Marco will also be meeting the executive board of the International Association of Permanent Representatives to the United Nations.

The Council of Presidents is constituted by former presidents of the United Nations General Assembly and meets annually to discuss issues of major importance and formulate opinions regarding the future role of the United Nations in the development of international affairs.

In New York, Prof. de Marco will also be delivering a lecture entitled `The Mediterranean - the art of the impossible?` at the Fairleigh Dickinson University of New Jersey.

During his visit, Prof. Guido de Marco will be assisted by Mr Walter Balzan, Malta`s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
